Mayhem Spandex specializes in crafting a diverse range of colorful and handmade clothing, including leggings, catsuits/unitards, swimwear, leotards, lounge wear, trousers, jackets, dresses, shorts, tops and accessories. Each piece is created with meticulous attention to detail in an array of eye-catching designs.
What is spandex?
Spandex, LYCRA® and elastane are the same thing. A synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity. It is a polyether-polyurea copolymer that was invented in 1958 by chemist Joseph Shivers at DuPont's Benger Laboratory in Waynesboro, Virginia. LYCRA® was the brand name given to the fabric. The name "spandex" is used widely in the USA and is an anagram of the word "expands" and it is more commonly known as elastane. It is the type of fabric that is used to make swimsuits and leggings. LYCRA® is a brand of elastane manufactured by DuPont and Spandex is the name commonly used in the USA for elastane.
Does spandex stretch?
Any fabric with elastane content will stretch. How much depends on the content and the structure of the fabric. Spandex has a high elastane content and stretches considerably in all directions.
How are MayHem garments made?
When you order an item of clothing from MayHem firstly we place an order for the correct amount of fabric from our UK based suppliers. This is printed to order so that there is no wastage. Once it arrives the fabric is cut out using pre-made paper patterns and all fabric scraps kept for use in other products. Nothing goes to waste! The pieces of cut fabric are then sewn together using specialist machinery to create extremely durable garments.
How long will my order take?
The only MayHem products that are not made to order are the regular accessories. These are normally dispatched the day after your order is placed. All clothing and custom accessories are handmade once your order has been placed. This means that shipping times can vary depending on how busy we are. As an estimate we aim to complete all orders for handmade garments within 15 working days. This time could be much shorter at quieter times or maybe longer over busy periods such as festival season. If you need something in a rush for a special occasion you can pay a fee to have your order bumped up to high priority with a 5 working day turnaround.
Can I request custom-made items from Mayhem Spandex?
Absolutely! We offer custom-made items tailored to your specific preferences. You can provide us with your measurements, desired design elements, and fabric choices, and we will handcraft a unique piece just for you.
Can I request a bespoke design from Mayhem Spandex?
Absolutely! Our bespoke design service allows you to collaborate with our talented designers to create a truly original piece. Whether you have a specific idea in mind or need creative guidance, we will work closely with you to bring your vision to life.
How do design consultations work for custom orders?
Design consultations are a fantastic way to ensure your custom order aligns perfectly with your preferences. During a design consultation, you'll discuss your ideas, inspirations, and design elements with us. This collaborative process guarantees that the final product captures your style and personality.
Can I return or exchange custom-made, bespoke or altered items?
This means anything made to your specific requirements (made-to-measure) or customised. For example a change of leg length or added pockets etc. Since each custom-made item is created specifically for you, we're unable to accept returns or exchanges for these pieces. However, we're committed to your satisfaction, so if there's an issue with sizing or craftsmanship, please contact our customer support team, and we'll address your concerns. All other MayHem clothing is handmade to order (made after purchase) but is still returnable as it is standardised sizing and can be resold.
When will I receive my refund?
We try and process all refunds within 5 working days from receiving the item/s. If you've not had a notification or update from us after 5 working days from the expected return delivery date, please check your tracking and contact us to confirm whether we have received the return.
Can I exchange my item?
You can exchange any item if you require a different size in the style you originally bought. Providing that the original item is in good re-saleable condition. In the event that we don't have your alternative size in stock, we will contact you for further instruction.
What do I do if I think my item is faulty?
If you believe the item you received is faulty, please contact us quoting your order number, name, details of the product and the fault. Any pictures that you could send would be very helpful.
What do I do if I receive the wrong item?
If the item you received is not what you originally ordered, please contact us quoting your order number, your name and address, details of the product and the reason for return, and whether you require a refund or a replacement. We will then advise on how to proceed with the return.
My item has not arrived. What now?
If, in a rare event, the shipment is not delivered within the guided timeframe given, please contact us to notify us. Whilst these guidelines are usually accurate, unless guaranteed Next Day delivery or Express with DHL, they are only a guideline. An item won't be deemed lost until 7 working days after the due date in the UK and 10 working days after the due date for the international post. If we receive your parcel back from our courier because the address provided by you was incorrect then you will be responsible for the cost of reposting. We are not responsible for missing parcels or delays by the courier.
Can I cancel my order?
Under the United Kingdom’s Distance Selling Regulations you have the right to cancel your order for a full refund. Order cancellations must be made in writing, if you require a cancellation please contact us, quoting your order number and details. If the item has already been posted then you will be liable for the cost of postage. You are also responsible for returning the item to us.

How should I wash my MayHem spandex?
Your MayHem spandex can be machine washed at 30°c on a delicate wash setting. For best results wash inside out. Soak stains straight away in cold or tepid water. If stubborn rub a small amount of mild detergent to the affected area then wash as normal - do not use hot water on stains.
How should I dry my MayHem spandex after washing?
Do not tumble dry or dry clean. Drip dry away from direct heat and sunlight as sunlight may fade the print.
Does my shiny garment require special care?
Foiled and shiny fabrics look great but they do tend to need a little more care and attention. Washing foiled garments less often and in cold water will keep their shine longer. Whilst MayHem always uses highest quality foils, if they are being worn and washed as an every day item of clothing then the sparkle may dull. If you’re looking for longevity or to use for fitness then it’s best to go for garments without shiny panelling.
Can I send my MayHem Spandex in for alterations and repairs?
If you love your MayHem garment but the fit is not quite right you can send it back to us to be altered for a small alteration fee. Likewise if you have an old MayHem garment that you love but it has seen better days and you just can't bear to part with it you can send it back to us to be repaired. Obviously the price of repair depends on the extent of the damage and we will always let you know if you'd be better off just ordering a new one. However if we can save your old favourite we will. Please contact us to discuss any alterations or repairs.
What are the accessories made from recycled fabrics?
